Cyberbullying occurs when a youth threatens, humiliates, spreads false rumors, or otherwise tries to harm another youth through sending or posting material using the Internet or cell phone. Over 40% of children have been victims of cyberbullying. Everyone who has gone online has seen it. Fortunately, most of us have also seen people stand up against bullies online.
Emily-Anne Rigal, the founder of WeStopHate.org, is leading a strong fight against cyberbullying and helping to raise the self-esteem of many young adults. The organization’s goal is for teens to “stop hating on yourself, stop hating on others, [and] stop letting others hate on you.”
A quick and easy way to help right now is to vote for “adding a Bully Button to Facebook” to report and suspend verified cyberbullies. Please go to http://bullybutton.org.
